A is for Apis Dorsata Shawl

November 27, 2021

I’m finally going to get started with my crazy idea! My first project is going to be the Apis Dorsata Shawl made in Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage in Liquid Gold. This is the first time ever I’ve bought a specific yarn for a project. While it isn’t the exact yarn called for in the pattern, it was the closest I could get because the original is no longer available.

The URL for the pattern is https://knitty.com/ISSUEdf11/PATTapisdorsata.php

The recommended yarn is 3 skeins of worsted weight, 100% superwash merino (630 yds). The yarn I got has 200 yards to a skein so there might be a little bit of yarn chicken at the end but we’ll see.

Further, the pattern recommends a size 7 (4.5 mm) set of straight needles, stitch markers, a crochet hook, and waste yarn (for the tubular cast-on). I’ve never done a tubular cast on so this could be interesting…

The pattern says to use your favorite tubular cast-on so to my handy book Cast On, Bind Off (By Leslie Ann Bestor) I go, to figure out which one feels better, or simply less awkward.

Meet you back in a week or so!
